In this moving episode, César and Maurício tell how they found a pillory completely preserved as a reminder of slavery in Cape Verde, the first country they visited and where the transatlantic trade of enslaved Africans originated.

Travelers César and Maurício's first encounter with Muslim Africa shows them the cultural diversity of Senegal expressed in the contrast between the bustling capital Dakar and the serenity of Gorée Island, which keeps alive its memories of slavery.

EP 4 - Guinea-Bissau
In Guinea-Bissau, César and Maurício come across boys doing movements similar to those of capoeira, an important piece of African heritage in Brazilian culture. They also find exposed chains as a memory of slavery.

EP 5 - Ghana
The travelers photograph sites that serve as places of remembrance of slavery in Ghana. Ghana was the first African country to gain independence and this is where the descendants of slaves who returned from Brazil, known as “tabons”, live.

EP 6 - Togo
On their journey, César and Maurício arrive in Togo. In this country, they receive an amulet, deconstruct their prejudices regarding voduns, and end up participating in a funeral very similar to the funeral rituals of the Brazilian Candomblé.

EP 7 - Benin
On the trip to Benin, César and Maurício witness several rare and unusual rituals, and notice the influence of the Brazilian culture brought by the “agudás”, the freed slaves who returned to the African continent.

EP 8 - Nigeria
In Nigeria, the travelers notice the influence of the Brazilian culture brought by the slaves who returned to Africa when freed, and photograph a Carnival parade similar to those of Brazil, but with its own peculiarities.

EP 9 - Angola
César and Maurício arrive in Angola, a country with great cultural affinity with Brazil. They are moved while photographing the footprint of Queen Ginga, a great warrior in the fight against Portuguese colonialism, in a cave.

EP 10 - Mozambique
In the final stage of their African journey, César and Maurício visit sites that serve as places of remembrance of slavery in Mozambique, the last route of the transoceanic trade of enslaved black people.
